I'm too hard on myself. I know my last few blogs have sounded bleak, but they really sum up what I was feeling. I have high expectations. I expect myself to be strong, to learn from others' mistakes instead of my own, to be smarter, better etc. What I keep having to remind myself is that I would never have known my weaknesses if I hadn't have gone through them.
What I keep having to remind myself is that I already am strong.
Sometimes I get overwhelmed by tasks and thoughts and life events in general. When this happens it's hard for me to think straight because I have a million things rushing through my head and I don't want to stop obsessing over them until I reach a solution. So, I just have to keep pressing on, doing my best until my mind settles down and I can think logically again. This is where I am now. Sure I'm a little stressed because of school and dumb Algebra stuff that's due tomorrow. And yes, I'm still bummed about him, but I know that, to quote the adage, this too shall pass.
We all get overwhelmed. And I bet almost everyone cries when a relationship doesn't work out. And yes, the future is scary. And we all doubt ourselves.
But sometimes I forget who I am. I am Briana. I went to Bolivia all by myself and battled Typhoid and parasites. I learned a foreign language. My childhood was screwed up, but I'm coming to terms with it so that I can move on. I never thought I'd be able to talk about it, and that's strength right there. I am constantly striving to be a better person. I will only allow what happened to me as a child to influence me in a positive way. I am resilient. I can see all sides of a situation. I am smart. I have goals, and I have self-confidence. I am independent. I have a great sense of humor. I am compassionate and a good friend. I love life, and being goofy, and mismatched clothes. I am loud and Hispanic and I finally embrace my naturally curly hair. I know what I want now. I want to be a Nurse and then go to Grad school to become a Spanish professor. I want to be less materialistic, and of course, I want to travel the world. I am proud of who I've become. But I'm not done yet.
We are our own harshest critic.
I bet you're pretty awesome too.
I'm proud of you.
